Autox for Cincy Sunday event?
> What do you think about running 225/50/14's??
I might be the only guy on this list who has had 225/50/14 R-tires on a
rare 14 x 7 rim, so I'll share my experience. Tires are old-school BFG
R1 on TSW (35 offset) rims. I used them on my 88 Scirocco 16V
(H&R/Boge) with minor rubbing problems on the front inner fenders under
full lock. They would not even fit on the front of my 87 Scirocco 16V
with HoR/Bilstein (too low in front). Your offset of 20 mm might cause
rubbing problems on the outer fender lip, but are probably perfect for
the rear, as I had to run 1/4" spacers to clear the shock towers.
Another option is to run 225/50 up front and 195/55 in the rear to get
the ass end to come around easier. That was my biggest frustration when
autoxing VWs. Understeer is a pain the ass!
I'm now using the same 225/50/14 tires on stock 14 x 6.5" BMW (ET 30)
rims. The tires do not appear overly stretched on the rim, but of
course fit much better on the 7" rim.
I assume you're going to use these on a Mk1 tho? Come on over to a KC
event and we can do a test fit with my set. It will only take you about
24 hours to get here. :-)
