Who can forget the "EGA Wonder"?  Maybe not "early" '80's, but 
definitely by mid-to-late '80's.

FWIW, I was running a Radeon 9000 card under XP on my SiS chipset-based 
Shuttle SS51G, and had NO driver-related problems with it whatsoever.  I 
wound up switching back to my trusty/crusty old Matrox card because it 
produces clearer text on my analog LCD monitor.
