When I was hauling ass in the JH powered 81 w/ FF gearing across
Nevada's desert in 100F outside temps <pant>, <pant> I observed 120
degree Celsius temps via the stock oil gauge. Water temp was 3/4 and a
little bit above @ 90 to 110 mph for a sustained time, two gas tanks
worth.
Oil was Redline 20w50 or Mobil 15w50 I forget which. Water in coolant
was mostly water due to a freak out in Sparks: I was thinking it was a
blown head gasket (it turned out to be rust from dormancy). Doh!
Other than this extreme situation I usually see 100 to 110C when driving
on the freeway around town, all this has been without A/C in the car. I
have a sandwich plate adapter but no x row cooler to go with it yet.
100C = 212F = boiling water. This or a little bit hotter is a good
thing.
