Timing light beginner- Help
Total advance with the engine under load with revs over 3000 should be
in the low 30's. With no load (just revving it as you're doing) it will
advance more (the equivalent of vacuum advance), so, yeah, it should do
what it's doing.

PS< Also, as Allyn pointed out, the inductive pickup should not be on
the coil wire. It should be on the number 1 spark plug wire.
