Well, basically Allyn, you have to just be the most critical you possibly
can. The last time I inspected a car "for the list" was a little over a
year ago. I didn't drive it, but the guy said it was "absolutely perfect
in every way". Sheya right! The car was nice, but it wasn't perfect. The
trick is to take a pad with you and note everything you see --
everything. It should take you 2 minutes just to inspect the paint -- look
at it from every angle and distance. Down the sides of the car; don't
forget the roof, etc. Look in all door jambs and under every single seal
for evidence of paint. etc etc. Below was the report I gave on that
"perfect" car .
I'll try to get down to Uniontown to inspect the other one over
the weekend; I'll call him today.
Jason
From July 11, 2001:
-------------------------
Details:
86 Scirocco 16V
Tornado Red, Cloth/Vinyl
No power package
Sunroof
VIN: WVWCA0535GK029876
Odo: 114,192 miles.
Asking $3495.
My notes:
---------------------------------------------------
Paint is excellent, all original. There is a 2" scratch on the passenger
front fender down to the paint. That is (as far as I could see) the _only_
imperfection in the paint. I think there may have been rust repaired over
the driver's door handle, but I'm not sure -- and that was the only
suspected body filler I found. No other dings or anything. The car is
really in great shape.
The sunroof doesn't line up properly and doesn't open. Glovebox doesn't
stay up.
All 4 rotors are badly rusted & pitted. Rear calipers seem OK.
PIAA Fogs, one is cracked.
Small wear mark on driver's door panel arm rest.
OEM Radio with aftermarket CD-Changer mounted in glovebox, aftermarket F
speakers.
Aftermarket shift boot.
Driver's inner CV joint recently replaced
Tires have good tread, Goodyear Eagle HP 195/60-14
Teardrops in VG condition
Bolsters are 100% perfect.
Rear hatch cover in _ok_ condition.
Bumpers are in great shape, small ding in rubber strip in front bumper.
OE Paint, OE Exhaust, OE Suspension.
PA Inspection through 06/02
No Cracks in dash.
Shift bushings good.
Side mount should be changed, engine vibrates; belt is supposedly new, but
I'd replace it.
Started right up, but motor is dirty.
No stress marks on rear bumper mounts (i.e. never hit from behind).
All body parts align perfectly.
No sign of any re-painted areas.
