Larry,
Its an instantaneous mpg display. i think there is also a 'mileage over distance' thingy associated with the tripmeter, but im not sure.

Al-
I can't figure out why it would need vacuum to estimate mileage when it has a nice ODOMETER sitting right there...?
Are you sure?

vacuum thingy is for it to estimate mileage, based on intake vacuum. there is also a external temp sensor that you may have to find if you want it to all work perfect.

Subject: MF system
Just got back from Bug-a-plooza in East Ridge Tenn. and managed to score just about the only Scirocco part I could find. It was a instrament cluster for an 88' rocco. It's got the 140mph speedo, "working" odometer, 8k tach and the Multi-Function clock dealy. So heres my question.
Aside from the proper wiper stalk on the steering colum with the needed buttons, is there anything else I need to have in order for this to work in my 88' scirocco that doesn't have this system? I also noticed that there is some sort of weird ass vaccume looking sensor on the back of the cluster but have no clue as to what the hell it is. So please send forth all your knowledge on this grand device.
On a side note, since I was at the car show this weekend I wanted to let all of you know that one of our own listers Ray Miller took 2nd place in Water Cooled Daily Driver for his 81 S rocco w/16v transplant. Dan Williams (yet another lister) also showed his car. So the list as well as the state of GA was well represented as they were the only 2 scirocco's at the show. Mine however just stayed here at home since the damn infant doesn't want to burp so I can driver her. I'll be working on that over the next week or so as I also move to my new house. I have noticed however that all of my VW's crap out when I'm about to take them to a show. Think they have stage fright?
