Well, my last e-mail didn't seem to reach the list for whatever reason. =
Basic recap, thanks to all those that answered my first post about =
burping the 16v, I didn't get a chance to do it because yesterday it =
blew the expansion tank cap right off just as I was almost home. I was =
able to find the cap and limp it to the VW shop and left it there for =
the night.
Well, today I worked on the car all damn day. Pulled the original =
thermostat from the car (I have no idea how it lasted 14 years) and =
replaced it with a new one. After adding coolent to the car, I took her =
for a quick spin so that the thermostat would open and I blew the return =
heater core hose right before the clamp to the splitoff at the block. =
Easy fix, cut hose before the hole and reclamp. This time I went back =
to the method of filling the radiator, putting water in the top radiator =
hose till the expansion tank started to over flow, and then letting the =
car run. I ran outta time but I still don't think I got the air out. =
The top radiatior hose gets hot, but I can't feel any coolent in it when =
I sqeeze it. It just feels like it's full of air. How the hell do I =
get this out. I really don't want to blow another hose and I don't want =
to blow the head gasket or crack the block either.
William
