[tehc] engine swap
I'm not going to disagree with you on the techical stuff. I have to
say, though, that:
Digifant I gave about 3/4 gas mileage (30 vs 40) for the same 1.8 CIS-E
motor producing about the same HP.
It will not run any significant distance if the temps are 20f or below.
It will start to miss and the longer it is driven the worse it will get
until it shuts off. Yes, it will leave you completely stranded on a
very cold winter's night.
Replacing everything (O2, knock, brain, idle stablizer, TB switches,
tuneup parts several times over, etc.) did nothing for it's attitude.
To this day, and from the day we bought it, it will idle all funky about
once a month, more or less. Then it will go back to normal by itself.
The dealer could not figure this out (Martin Nemer, Albany). It
happened when they had it, but they didn't know what was causing it as
far as a computer diagnostic goes. So they tinkered with the idle
screw.
I never really liked that car because, in my mind, it didn't rate
compared to earlier cars I had with CIS-E. I sold my 87 Jetta with
CIS-E about a month ago, and just about a month before that I bought the
87 16v with, of course, CIS-E. I'm happy. Have to admit, though, I got
a chill when I opened the hood and saw that idle stabilizer sitting
there....
