Goofy Electrical Question

I like the idea of having a 4-spd heater fan.  But I dont want AC.  I have a
MK2 16v parts car.  Couldnt I just swap the resistor unit that the AC blower
(MK2) uses and get it to work onthe old MK1 blower?  It cant be too
complicated just have to McGyver it a little.  The MK2 Dash and wiring
harness is being used for this as well.  That should make it easier eh?
Any thoughts/suggestions/warnings
