About 3.5 yrs ago I installed the 16V 10.1's, ~2yrs ago Craig and I
installed the 16V rear axle. (Mars)
2 months ago I finally got around to installing the 16V booster/MC/prop
valves/pedal assy only to find the MC was bad.
I ordered one from Potter and finally put the MC in today, bled it the
normal way by myself (not bench bled) and everything seems to work great now.
Two Questions:
1. The brakes are more on/off with less modulation (as I assumed they would
be) but something occured to me.
With the engine off the brakes require more pedal effort to stop the car
and while running the engine you get more boost (less pedal effort).
Therefore if I could find a way to constrict the vacuum hose from the
intake manifold to the booster I could (tune) increase pedal effort in turn
allowing more modulation of the brakes.....Does this make any sense??
2. The rears will definitely lock up before the fronts now (worked
perfectly before with the 81 MC/Booster/prop valves and 16V brakes F/R,
just too much pedal travel).
I am using the 16V prop. valves and my brakes are F: Mintex red-box/ate
slotted R:Mintex red-box/Zimmerman x-drilled.
After talking to Craig, he thinks that switching to better pads in front
(Mintex C-tech) I will get enough grab in front to reduce rear lockup.
This makes sense but I thought I'd check first to see if anyone has found a
more constrictive VW Prop valve (from another model) I could install to
reduce rear pressure first. I will eventually switch to adjustable (tilton)
valves but in the meantime I need something to tide me over.
Thanks for any advice,
Randy
