Golf instrument cluster in my 84 rocc. how to use the MPG?

How do you use the features and functions on the golf intstrument cluster? i 
pulled it off a 84 or 85 golf. it was a 8v cis-e. my question is do i use 
the features on it? there's only two buttons on there to set the clock. is 
there some weird combination that i have to push to get the features to 
work?
