Re: power shifting

small suggestion: Speed shifting becomes less jerky when you change the
order a little bit:

come off accelerator slightly,
clutch in,
shift and accelerate at about the same time
clutch out.

That accounts for the lag in engine response, and helps the revs drop as
soon as the clutch is pressed in. Of course if the time between coming off
the accelerator and tapping the clutch doesn't match your engine's response
time, then you are likely in 2nd place. Match those times and you can get
smoother, faster shifts than otherwise. Works to smooth out normal shifts
on the street as well.

Systems like some of MSD's can use a trigger on the clutch pedal to cut the
spark momentarily, providing a dip in power that matches the cluthc
movement. Theoretically the engine's response time to a cut spark is faster
than to a blipped throttle. Who knows.

Sincerely;
Brian Haygood
