Nah, having destroyed my Mazda's *factory* (and quite stout) turbo motor
under high-boost and revs, I decided to drop the idea of a forced induction
2.01 16v. I'd do it if I was to build the whole thing with forged pistons,
proper fasteners, etc., but that is a lot of work and money.
So, I then looked at the 1.8T idea. This is also a huge amount of work and
what do you get for it? -about 225hp if you buy the (expensive) Audi TT
motor? Sure, more power is available, but then you have to spend even more.
So... for about half the price of a stock 1.8T project, I could add these
throttlebodies and get around 210 all motor horsepower, throttle/rev
response like a sportbike, exotic looks and sound, NO TURBO LAG, yada yada.
Additionally, I wouldn't have to reconfigure or discard the mighty
transmission that I just built (4.25 r&p, custom 6-speeds, Quaife). If I
want more power then I can add safely add fully 3D-mappable nitrous
injection for another 80hp.

To do an ABA turbo/16v project right, you'll want to swap in some
higher-compression forged pistons. A 8.5:1 CR is about perfect; I think.

I say drop a 2.0l 16v motor in there and splurge on a 4.25 R&P. Then install
a .71 or .75 5th gear and call it a day. You'll have amazing bottom end
grunt and awesome rev potential that the ABA can't deliver. For the money
that you might spend on a turbo, you could also buy a Quaife and a
six-speed. Turbo shmurbo... :^)
