16v timing part 2
well, here's the situation......i have the flywheel timing mark lined
up correctly.....but the mark on the crank pulley is off by 1/2 from
the mark on the plastic lower cover........not a big deal, as i trust
the flywheel more than the plastic cover
ok, now for the head.....the dots on the cam gears are lined up
parallel to each other, and the lobes on the cams line up
symettrically with each other on the other end.....but the mark on
the valve cover and the mark on the cam gear are off by about 1.5
teeth.....this is with the valve cover torqued down.....
one thing i did notice is that the cutout in the end of the exhaust
cam that drives the distributor is not parallel to the head......like
i am pretty sure it should be....
ok...one thing that i did not mention in my first post is that the
cams i am running are shrick 256' cams.....and the adjustable cam
gear that i had on there was set to 3' of advance.........i am
fairly certain that you don't need to have an adjustable cam gear on
to run these cams........
how should i go about timing my motor......line up the
flywheel....then line up the dots on the cams or line up the notch in
the end of the exhaust cam parallel to the edge of the
head?.............line up the dots on the cam gears and not worry
about the notch on the valve cover?......
any input would be greatly appreciated as i need to get this car
running asap...
dave
i know that there is supposed to be a bit of overlap using
aftermarket cams, but these are as mild as they come
