i know i'm a sucker for the obvious crap, but have you made sure that it
isn't a linkage problem? is it hard to shift at the tranny itself? it
shouldn't be, even if the clutch is fully engaged (with the engine off). is
the difficulty shifting only with the engine running, or with it stopped
too? what do you mean the clutch "still grabbed way at the end of pedal
travel"? if you have your clutch pushed to the floor in first gear, does the
car move? that is, is your clutch still engaging (i think that's what you
were getting at)? i assume you checked that the pushrod moves out when the
clutch lever is lifted before you put the tranny back on? the clutch
engaging/disengaging has little to do with the internal workings of the
tranny, afaik. as long as the pushrod moves out, the clutch should
disengage. hth,
