If you decide to hot-tank the block, it may be advised to replace the 
intemediate shaft bearings, which may or may not be trivial.

Yep, like Marc says- get it Hot Tanked.  This something you take to a
pro for.

While you are doing it you might consider a cylinder rebore or at least
have them check for true and plumb (are the out of round, are the sides
parallel, are they aligned 'straight' to the others/rest of block.)

There is a process (was talked about some weeks back) that mentioned
re-seasoning the block; having it clamped down between two strong, stiff
steel blocks and having the block heated and cooled in a way as to
realign the block and remove stress(es).
