Ground to distributer? 8V 85

I was looking at my distributer yesterday and I noticed a thick black wire 
grounded to the metal latch that holds the distributer on and the other end 
was just hanging there. The end was a rectangular metal peice with a bolt 
hole in the middle.  Anyone have any ideas of what this ground wire goes to?  
It's nothing major because the car runs fine but I couldn't find any place 
that this wire goes to.
