Har har.

Methinks the real reason is probably closer to the fact that Mk1s aren't 
usually putting nearly as much power to the ground as Mk2s.  Case in Point, 
Jason TMB -- his Mk1 is down for the count with a broken cross member.

It'll happen with lots of power on any A1 car, period.  So while your 
subjective opinion of the Mk1 being cooler might still stand, they're no 
better (nor worse) engineered than the Mk2. :)
