Re: [help] torque steer

Hmmm, well, a severly lowered car can change the angles of the CV's, which
will cause torque steer. I suppose a raised car will do the same. Ideally
the shafts should be straight, with minimal angle across the joint.

Hugely over-powered engines on tiny little wheels can torque steer violently
in a FWD car, see the Saab Viggen as a good example.

But you don't qualify for any of that. Hmmmm.

Car is not lowered. 1.8L 8v, JH 90 hp. Wheels are stock VW 'snow flake',
14x6. I believe tires are 185 - 65 - 14?, or 185-60-14. Something like
that, nothing extreme. Car tracks straight when hands are off the wheel,
but it pulls as soon as you hit the gas.

Thanks,

Victor

Is the car lowered at all?
What engine?
What size tires?

More info please.

This is with a non-power steering rack. I take the car to get inspected and
it passes with flying colors except for the fact that when you take your
hands off the wheel and press the gas pedal, the car pulls to the right.

I make sure the tire pressure in the front tires are equal and I take the
car to get an alignment. After all this, the car does the same thing. The
mechanic who did the work mentioned to take a look at the motor mounts. I
checked the front and rear mounts and they are in good shape. I haven't
looked at the side mounts yet. Also, the drivers side has an axle with
rebuilt cv joints, inner and outer.

Hmmm, could it be the side motor mounts? The dash is nice and quiet so I am
guessing that the passenger side mount is ok.

Anything else to check? The tie rods seems to be in good shape.

Thanks,

Victor
