Here in Raleigh, there is a metal recycler that takes scrap steel.  Last time I checked (which was over 5 years ago) they would pay $7.50 per 1000 pounds for a car if it was delivered to them with all the oil, gas, and freon removed.  So, if all the useful parts have been removed from a car there is no money in it, the scrap recycler is just a way to get rid of it.
