Pull harder. ;)

Use a lever under the head of the union. I have a straight blade screwdriver
I bent the tip of in a vice to get in there and pry them right out.

If they haven't been out recently (or ever) you run a very high likelihood
of breaking the plastic parts of the seats. Hit the list archives for an
extensive discussion of this about six months back.
