RE: getting rid of the drums?

Jorel,List
I swapped in the whole axle from a 16V Scirocco into my MK1 for this. I am
installing the MC as well. The axle wasn't that hard to put on. I had the
rear of the car on blocks, then just used a floor jack to lift up the axle.
It was a bit of a ballancing act but I was suprised it only took a few
minutes to get it lined up just right and lifted it right up on to the studs
that point dowwn from the frame. The trailing arms with the wheels/rotors
want to tip down quite a bit but it stayed on OK. Then a couple big nuts.
Kinda Cool actually.
It was only after that when I realized that I would likely have to take it
off again when I have to replace the exhaust system :(
BTW, I would like to put on the 16Vs vac booster as well but theis may be
more hassle that it is worth since I think you need to keep it together with
the 16V pedal assembly. And I cant figure out how that comes out.

You will need the axle stubs, the pads, the caliper, the brake
line, the rotors, the bearings, the dust shield and the emergency
brake lines (and I am sure that I forgot some little piece at 7am
in the morning. please chime it in)

Difficult ? Not really, Time consuming yeah..

The issue is that you need to change your Master cylinder as well.
get the 16v one (22mm) and install it. you will need to do this at
the same time you do the rear brakes.

Some people just get the rear axle of a 16v and slap it on,
personally I find this method more complicated as I don't have a
lift (grin).

Technote available, I have not seen one around, I will probably get
around to writing one as soon as I manage to get all the parts
assembled at home.
