MK1 16V susp upgrade.

I'm sure some of you MK1 16Vers out there know about this.
Trading up nearly the entire front end to my '79 Scirocco from an '86 16V
donor.  Can the entire strut asy be swapped in.  If not, why.  I'm trying to
stick with avaliable stock parts until I can get a stiffer/lowering package
much later.
Also I am installing the 4 pt front sub frame and I think the two inner
mounting points on the piece go on top of the frame rather than attach from
below.  Can some one confirm this.  These are the two that you have to
drill.
