Not actually. The "bottom of the barrel" models got
the outer "Euro" lights (no hi beams) to go with their
1.3 liter power plant. There was a "blank" where the
inner high beams would have been.
The "double squares" came on some very nice models,
including the Scirocco GTi.
Oh, by the way, those struts that the US

1983 had "pipe" shaped brackets (no strut), and my
1985 has "L" shaped brackets (no struts).
(BTW, if anyone needs one of these, please let me know
- you can have them for free . . .)
I have to agree that bumpers offer little to no
protection in a serious accident (that's why they call
them "bumpers", eh?)
