RE: cutting out
carb & FI engine were available at the same time right through from whenever
FI was introduced in the MKI in the '70s almost until MKII production
stopped. In the UK there was no compulsion to have cat equipped cars until
I think '92 so carbs could still be used. A basic rule of thumb is:
GLi, GTi, GTX, Storm models were FI - 1.6 in MKI & early MKII then 1.8
lower models such as C,CL,GL,GT,GTL were carb - 1.3,1.5 or 1.6 in earlier
models, 1.6 only for the middle 3 or 4 years of MKII production and finally
1.8 from '88 onwards
there were others like Scala & GTII which could be either, depending on
year.
