RE: cutting out - Me too
My fuel pump (both the old one and the new one) whines for about 2 seconds
when the ignition is turned on. After that, it is silent....except when it
was ready to fail, when it whined all the time. Even when the old one was
ready to fail, I didn't experience any hesitation - just the constant whine.

Subject: cutting out - Me too
I've got the same problem on both cars 83 8V, 88 16V- cutting out meaning
hesitation under load or at higher speeds (80mph + or 3500-4000 RPM +)..
herky jerky kinda.
Is the fuelpump on the 16V generally noisy? Especially when you turn on the
ignition?
Judging from the other remarks I should take a closer look at both the
filter and pump correct? What are, if any, the signs of a fuel pump failure?
