RE: Dumb question about solid lifter heads
But won't the engine breathe most freely with all valves adjusted at the
bottom of the spec? Once after I put the top end of my Beetle engine back
together, I adjusted my valves to .006", and then I didn't have a chance to
readjust after I ran the engine to seat everything. It was pretty clattery
and didn't have much power, and when I adjusted the valves, they had
loosened up to .060". I reset them at .006, and as you might expect, the
difference was significant. It seems that to a lesser extent, the same
should be true in adjusting between the top and bottom of the spec for our
cars.
Are you saying the valves resist the motion of the cam less if adjusted in
the way you outline, or do you actually get more power at x rpm?
