RE: Fuel mileage
On my next run to Salt Lake City, I'll take mpg checks at each fill-up,
thereby comparing CA fuel with Utah fuel. Stay tuned...

Subject: RE: Fuel mileage
I'm curious, has anyone noticed a mileage difference between California vs.
other state gas? It seemed like I got about a 10% drop when we converted to
the MTBE-spiked stuff a few years back. I just took a trip to Arizona and
got a steady 29-30 mpg at 70-80 mph on the Interstates down the San Joaquin
Valley and across the Mojave. Coming back on Arizona gas, I got more like
33 even though that tank included something like 60 miles of 2-lane highway
with frequent acceleration to pass, 45 miles of dirt road shortcut at
speeds of 15 to 50 mph, and then an Interstate run into Needles at 80-90
with occasional spurts of 100+. It seemed to climb past 100 easier too.
Filled up in Needles and my mileage went right back down. So I'm curious,
has anyone else noticed this? The California Air Resources Board claims
they tested MTBE and found no difference in mileage, but hey, these are the
same people that ruined the diesel fuel pumps with their low-sulphur fuel
and polluted our drinking water with MTBE....
