Logo Infringement

I am not a lawyer, but I am a law student, thus I am not offering legal
advice, but I will offer you my personal opinion. After reading the U.S.C
section referenced by the attorney for VWoA, I would recommend that you
remove the logo. It is my belief that the statute is aimed toward those who
would commercially benefit from use of the logo, but you may very well still
be in violation despite the fact that you are not profitting. In fact, at
first glance, I would conclude that you probably are in violation of the
statute. I would question what compensatory damages VW would be able to
collect or whether they would be willing to suffer the public relations
consequences of battling a VW enthusiast. Perhaps they don't care. I would
remove the logo even so, if I were in your shoes. With that said, from a
personal stand point I feel quite strongly that this matter is a stinking,
festering pile of horse shit and though it may not do any good, I fully
intend to draft a letter infroming VWoA that they have lost my business. I
drive Sciroccos. This fact does not profit VW in any way I guess. My wive
however, drives Jettas. New ones. In the scheme of things, VWoA may not
give a damn about loosing the 5 figures I planned to spend on a new Jetta
wagon in the coming months, but at the very minimum, they will be informed
as to why I will select a vehicle from another manufacturer. In summary,
piss on 'em.
