Right on, just picture the angle of the rod in a long stroke motor as its 
halfway down the bore. At that point the big end is furthest away from 
centerline, the longer stroke crank will move it further away from center 
making the angle more extreme putting more stress in the center of the rod 
and when you add boost well.........
There is a reason the factory VW Audi boosted cars used the shorter strokes 
even today in the 1.8T.
