Mine does the same,(comes off at ~ 1250 RPM) for years now, without any ill
effect recorded, I talked to my expert scirocco vw mechanic (been repairing
rabbits/golf and scirocco for 21 years now) and he says its normal, as long
has when car idles, you press on gas and it goes away and remains away, if
there is a problem, with belt or alternator the light will remain on even if
you rev it at redline levels.

Mine has done this for the 5 years ive had my car except it goes off at 2k.
I think this is when the alt. actually turns on,  it seems the alt doesnt
turn on right away.
