Yeah, that's the legend, although I didn't hear it until years after I got
out. It was officially known as the SR by the time it went operational.

Hey Larry - is it true that the original name of the SR-71 was RS-71, but
at its introduction, by then-vice president Dick Nixon, tricky Dick got it
twisted around - after which they simply decided to rename it??
