Re: What Oil to Use in a 16V and 8V?
i always used to use mobil 1 15W50 tri-synthetic in my motor. why? cuz
someone i trust said it was the best. sounded good to me. i used to use
castrol GTX, then upgraded to castrol syntec cuz i wanted the synthetic, and
thought that GTX was good. then my buddy came along and told me about the
virtues of mobil 1. so i switched.
anyways, my rocco loves eating/vomiting oil, and the $27CDN/4L jug was
getting to be a bit much for me. especially when i lost 2L in a week! so,
i switched brands yet again. now i use motomaster non-synthetic 20W50.
motomaster = caca. however, it also = cheap. $7.16CDN/4L jug is something
i can deal with. it hasn't been leaking all that much lately, so i haven't
been driving the car that much either. guess we'll see how it looks on the
way to cinci this weekend.
as a side note, i can tell you what oil NOT to use in your tranny.
motomaster non-synthetic 20W50. :) i think that the stuff is too thick. i
usually use the mobil 15W50 tri-synthetic, but didn't have any on hand a
couple of weeks ago. as a result, i now have a 4K in my rocco!
what happened was that the green end cap on the tranny was puking out
copious amounts of tranny fluid. so, i started putting some of the 20W50 in
it, cuz i thought, WTF, this thing is pretty hurting already anyways. when
i replaced the cap, i drained out teh 15W50 synthetic/20W50 shite blend, and
filled it up again with 20W50. that night, i molested the egos of the
owners of a typeR and a mk4 VR6 golf on the highway. sustained 6000+rpm in
fifth gear (and 7000 in second thru fourth) blew out the seal on my 9As
splined shaft, and coated my clutch disc in oil. yay.
i do these tests for all of you. spread the knowledge. be fruitful.
bleh.
