The G grind is a great cam. Idle is a smooth as stock with good power. 274,
276, 280 will give a couple more horses on top, are just a touch weaker in
the midrange and all have a really irritating bumpy idle (OK! So, I'm an old
fart and it's irritating to me!). My experience with these cams is all on a
2.0 w/10 CR and ported head. I'd think on a 1.8 without a ported head that
the G grind would be about as much as it could use.
So, it depends on what you want.
