Good advice. Here is my contribution.

Don't connect the radio's (or amp's) power feed to ANY of the existing
power wires behind the dash. Run a _new_ lead directly from the battery,
fuse in at that end, and poke the other end in through the rubber
grommet on the fire wall.

This way you don't tax the existing (old) wires, you get clean power,
and it's safer.
