Re: timing marks
Got a Bentley? It tells you in there how to line up the timing marks. Not
all watercooleds have the timing mark on the crank pulley but if you have
the T-belt cover off there are dimples in the crank and intermediate shaft
pulleys that are suppose to line up. If you don't have the covers off, then
pop off the distributor cap and line it up on #1 cylinder. If the marks are
right, cool. If they aren't, adjust the T-belt accordingly and crank it
over a couple times and line up the timing marks again and make sure they
are right. The distributor is not going to be directly on since it is moved
slightly to adjust the timing but the crank should be exactly on and the cam
should be within less than half a tooth. If the cam is a half tooth off or
more (if it is more than you need to move the t-belt to the closest tooth to
the mark) the belt may be stretched. Usually doesn't make much difference
as long as they are close. HTH!! Get a Bentley if you don't have one!! I
see them cheap on Ebay all the time!
