P.C. Rigging Air Filters

Keep in mind that you can order more shapes of K&N filters than you ever
imagined.  For example, you could use a rectangular filter that measures
6.75x4.5x4.125, or 8.5x6.75x3.75.  Theres a list here (in catalog K&N sent
me) of 15 different rectangular sizes, 59 "oval", which are closer to
rectangle than oval, and every conical, tapered conical, triangle, panel,
parallelogram, flat, and even one trapezoidal filter, too.  Don't just grab
something off the shelf.  Let me know the dimensions of the area you have to
work with, and I'll try and find the best one in this catalog, or email
tech@knfilters.com if you need a catalog.  Note:  it's not a good idea for
everyone on the list who is curious to bother the tech support guys.  That
will only result in them charging for the catalog for companies like mine
who really need them.

Ive noticed that the air filter acts as a gasket, and that there's a neck at
the bottom of the air box.  Couldn't i take out the air filter, put in a
handmade rubber gasket so there's a seal there, and (that word again) a huge
k&n cone filter somewhere where it's not in the way?  i imagine a huge cone
filter has a lot more capability than a flat k&n, and then the whole intake
hose thingy and intake manifold thingy can be eliminated, drastically
cutting down on restriction and help produce a deeper sound.  Does this make
sense or am i insane?
