RE: RANT: 1.8T in Scirocco 16V

Yeah the tuning(bolting-on) scene is changing. I also have a 2000 1.8T
Passat which I have the Garret Stage 2 chip in. It is a night and day
difference in performance over the stock chip. The upgrade takes bout 5
minutes to add 50 or so HP. I busted my ass to squeeze 5 or so out of my
car. My new Schricks are going to take me forever to get tuned in and wont
come close to giving 50hp.

Case and point, last years ND best of show. I talked to this guy for
probably 5 mins and whenever I asked how something worked he had no clue,
only the name of the shop that did it for him.

Case and point, best of show winner from last weekend. A MK4 with
wheels....wow.

The key is most, not all are complete dolts. The 14K price you quoted is a
little off, 10K will get you the "basic swap". Basic being 250hp. Without
the mods to motor the swap will come under 10K. Im sure you could do it
cheaper yourself. There are enough broke dick swaps running(barely) around
out there to prove that anything could be done cheaper. Hell my car is an
example.

But to each his own, Ive done my fair share of motor swaps and I look
forward to paying someone for the next one while I sit back and have a beer.

Sorry, but this isn't just the rest of the lists opinions...this is most of
the VW scene we're talking about. People who have large projects done at
shops usually have no idea what they're doing. Take most of the VR6 boys out
there...they love these self lubricating supercharger bolt-ons where they
don't have to drop the compression because the supercharger sucks that bad,
anyway..dumb cone filters, wars over which chip is better. It's all just a
pissing contest..let's see who can dump the most money in without ever
having
to crack the engine open. When I think of a 1.8T Scirocco put together by
someone else at such a high price, I am reminded just how similar some of
the
Scirocco drivers are to the VR6 drivers. Good for him if he knows something
about his car, but it doesn't help his credibility to have such things done
by a shop. Flame on!
