Re: (WAS) Re:Suspension advice wanted plz: (NOW) lowered cars and Boge's
You're right -- Turbos aren't the greatest choice for lowered A1 cars
because they're really not stiff enough. They aren't *bad*, but they
generally don't last forever, and they're too soft to begin with, so you'll
have about the same amount of bottoming out as you do with the stock
suspension, and you'll get some front end float or bounce...
ProGas are *not* to be used with lowering springs. It's my understanding
that they have double-valving. For low- to moderate suspension deflection,
they're soft. Then, under heavy deflection, the second valve kicks in and
is much firmer. This is nice for stock ride-height cars, but lowered cars
are constantly in the "hard" valve area, making the ride punishing...
I've never personally driven a car with ProGasses on them with stock
springs, but my guess is that they would be similar in ride to stock, but
slightly firmer (and thus less bottoming) on hard bumps.
TurboGas + Stock Springs = nice combination, very much like stock, and you
can expect a normal life.
FWIW I have MB Sport springs on my Mercedes with Boge TurboGas and it's a
fantastic combination, even after 40k miles... still stiff, and the car
never, ever bottoms.
TurboGas is a great shock with stock ride height...
