The smaller the offset number the farther out it pushes the edges of the 
rim. I'd call a 20mm offset radical and not at all suitable for use on a 
VW. I can feel the 28mm offset that I've got on my 14x7" Panasports, in 
fact. That kind of offset will have a deleterious effect on your wheel 
bearings, too.

The different model rims vary in offset but that is about typical for a 
stock part.
