RE: (OT) Car thieves
I own a 2000 Jetta, and the keys (including the valet key) are computer
coded. I don't think someone CAN make a duplicate without taking it to the
dealer.

On the topic of car thieves, here's a lesson... there's a dude out west
here (up in NorCal actually) who has a 2000 Jetta that he had over $40k
into.. we're talking playstations, video screens in the headrests, massive
subs everywhere, HID lighting, cams, wheels, body kit, tacky aluminum trim
in the interior.. basically just about EVERYTHING that could be bolted into/
on his car, he had. He was winning all the west coast shows, traveling up
and down the state. Well he finally got hit - bad. Here's the thread
and pics..

This guy made several mistakes. The car was apparently stolen with a key.
He allowed many people access to his keys, any of whom could have had a
duplicate made. He parked in a theatre that was known to lose lots of
cars to thieves. And he obviously had no Lojack, or other sophisticated
security stuff (though anything else would likely have been useless if
the thief had a key!).
Don't find your car like this!!
