I figure I have *some* idea as to what each of the three "boxes" do in the
drip well in my 16v.  (1988 1.8 16v rocco)  But I have a serious problem
with something  in that area I think.  Once again,...tonight I am driving
down the road about 65mph and the tach drops to 0.  (power is
gone,...everything is still working,...just the car is only "running"
because it is still in gear.  All  of a sudden,.....everything is fine
again.   This happens again a few seconds later and then finally it does it
and I push in the clutch and she dies!  I tried to crank it back
up,.....sounds like it *really* wants to start.......Nothing!   So I take
the Jetronic box out of the way and look for water in that area.......just a
little damp.  Slam the hood, hit the key,,,Vrooom.  She drives fine all the
way back to the house.  It has to be something will those damn puters
things.   So,.....the Jetronic box controls the fuel,...right?  The little
one, (ECU?)  controls the ignition, and the knock box controls    ?
Timing?     Any insight on this..?  Can I do away with these things all
together?  (Euro FI,...Carbs,....What?)
Many thanks,
Chris

Check for oil in the distributor, usually when the tach drops to zero, it's a
hall sender problem.
