I'd love to hear anything about this setup.
I have a line on an '90 3A with a head from an '86 GTI. I have been in the market for a new engine for an '82 that I have sitting in the back yard.
I would like to hear opinions on anyone who knows about the 3a 2L. I have been trying to find out if the Audi head is better or if to slap on a solid lifter, etc. The 3A bottom end seems the way to go.
While we are on this thread, anyone know if the distributor from the old 1.7 that comes with the stock '82 will mount into the 3a block? The one I know of has no electrical, so my plan was to use the current fuel and electrical system from the stock 1.7. Opinions welcome here as well :)

Subject: Question about a sensor...
I assume it is a sensor anyway. What I am speaking of is located on the
side of the head. The engine is a Audi 3A 2L block with an 8v head (origin
unknown...i think it is a solid lifter, i will check tomorrow morning). The
pic is below...

The cooling system on my non-expansion tank 1.8L RD engine has a coolant
line going into it at this spot and it has a hydraulic lifter head so does
that make mine a solid lifter head off a VW or is this the audi head? Also,
what is this sensor for I am having trouble finding out where it leads to?
This car is a wiring nightmare, even worse than my 82 was, pics will be up
soon. Anyone familiar with this engine at all? TIA
