Hey Josh,
I was concerned about purchasing my 16v when it had 166k on
it back in '98. However, it was well maintained - and has
turned out to be one of the best Sciroccos I've ever owned.
As for the car you're looking at, I would probably be most
concerned about rust. If it's bubbling under the edge of
the bodykit, there's likely a bit more underneath it
especially in the rear wheel arches. The doors are of
course typical...
Someone mentioned the transmission. Well, yeah it's a
time-bomb but so is every other tranny of this vintage, so
you're chances are probably just as good as anyone elses.
If the car has been well maintained over its life and the
rust is confined to non-structural areas (check the floors,
I've seen Mk 2s that are starting to rust), then I don't
see a really good reason not to buy it, especially
considering all the extras that are coming with it. You
already seem to have a good idea about putting another
$1000 into it.
