The POR people offer some kind of filler along with their rust conversion 
primers.  I would be interested in how they work.  IMO the texture helps 
hide minor abrasions, etc.

RE:  Na filled valves

Sodium's chemical symbol is Na from Natrium, some violent god.  Na + H2O = 
NaOH, otherwise know as lye.  Its exothermic, so you get neato boiling. 
10+ exh valves might be trouble.  FWIW, some earlier Porsche's VW came 
with Na filled exh valves.  Was it the 2.0 Type IV's in the 914s?
I believe Na is also hygrophilic, so if valves had crack, they would 
eventually go away.
