Well...I dunno about the performance BS...But the powerplants are real, and
they are also quite simple.  First off, they are not 'turbojets' as the word
is used here.  A REAL turbojet engine has an array of compressors, and the
combustion chamber AFTER the impeller shaft..Furthermore it is in-line.
What is used on this fine piece of machinery is the simple turbocharger.
Imagine if you will...
#1 air enters the compressor and is..well..compressed
#2 the compressed air goes around into a tube..lets call this the combustion
chamber
#3, JET-A is then mixed with the compressed air, and ignited
#4 The exhaust then is directed into the turbine (which spins the
compressor) of the turbo,
   and then out the nozzle.

  I personally have built one using an IHI turbo off of a ford 2.3 for a
fluid dynamics class.  it is LOUD and it is scarey..But it really does work,
it really does SOUND like a jet engine..and after all...there is nothing
quite like the smell of burning JET-A !
