[Tech] 16v Running Problems....Tach won't read properly

Got the exhaust from the Cat Conv. back off of my buddy's car.....The car
still won't run right.  This is what we have done/found so far:
    1.  Removed exhaust,....car still won't idle properly nor does it run
very well.  (loud too!)
    2.  Removed his Jetronic computer...had water in it.  Exchanged it for
mine and car still doesn't run well
    3.  When the car is trying to idle,....the car shows 0 rpms.....When you
revit up,....the needle Does move!   It is like it is 800-1000 rpms off....
    4.  We're gonna change out the knock box now and see what happens.....

Anybody with suggestions or advise...Please chime in here.
