So tell us Chris, what does this kit do?
It supplies direct power to the solenoid on the starter. Automatics need
this as heat created by the exhaust manifold creates lots of resistance in
the starter.
And where so we get the kit or is
it something a person can just throw together?
You can throw it together or buy the actual kit from a Bosch retailer. I
dont know the exact part number off the top of my head but I think it is
something like x-1.
My '86 turns hard on the first start of the day(like it's not getting a lot
of power) but I hold the key to start and it always starts. I was thinking
that I might need a new, heavier guage, power wire from the battery.
Try the relay thing first. Having a huge guage wire going to the starter
from the positive of the battery is not going to help you that much. That
wire isnt used unless the solenoid is activated.
