   I just re-installed the struts on my 16v this evening.  There is no way
you could get the strut in there with it still connected to the steering
knuckle -- unless the entire knuckle were loose from the car, which might be
more trouble than it's worth (OK, it definately would).  Try outlining the
position of the upper bolt with whiteout or something, and mark the position
of it's cam in the same way.

useless drivvel:     I hope to get my car on the road Monday with new
springs, clutch cable, steering boots, oil and filter (threw out the FRAM!
Ick!).  That will be the first time I've ever REALLY driven it, so I'm kinda
hyped up about it.
