[finally!] front motor mount replaced@
ok, y'all are probably getting sick of this thread - but i thought this
conclusion might bring some smiles to some.
turns out that the front motor mount was only partially mounted! that's
right, the top hex-head bolt never even touched the top threaded hole for
the mount bracket. (pics again at
http://www.geocities.com/travelingdave/8716v/pics.htm)
who was the brilliant professor who did this?? all i can think of is that
someone replaced the starter before i bought the car and had half a clue
when he put everything back together ("gee whiz, i don't have any left over
screws! that must mean i did a good job, ma!")
it's done. over with. but wait there's more! the cup that the mushroom
bushing sits in is in failure-mode too. there's a crack on the plate
itself, where the bolt hole is.
a can of worms.
and to bring closure to the other thread i started... i bought a torque
wrench and didn't use it once (can't get the effin' thing in there!). now,
i can't wait to take something apart so that i can torque it to spec.
thanks all for your help!
